The Market Thief

The Market Thief is a small project i worked on to experiment with comic design and worldbuilding.

The comic is about a boy named Kaelan who is in search of his mother.
Along the way he discovers the truths about his origin and the lies the government tell.

Page 1, 4 and 5 are colored by Suzan Kwakkenbos.
everything is drawn in a period of four weeks.

Concept Art and Character Designs

I took inspiration from Middle Eastern countries for clothes and buildings.
There is a huge divide between the poor and the rich and i wanted to emulate that also by the clothes they wear. The poor tend to wear more baggy clothes,blankets and fabric wrapped around themselves. Passed down from relative to relative. Compared to that the rich tend to wear slim fitted unpractical outfits, specifically designed for the person.

The main character is a mix between both.
